First flare tip replacement in Vietnam.
Another milestone for Vertech Offshore.
Vertech Offshore was contracted by PTSC for replacing the Low Pressure and High Pressure flare tips on Su Tu Vang Central Processing Platform (CPP), offshore Vietnam. The replacement operation was to be performed using the helicopter method. Scope of work also included replacement of the ignition cable and assist in commissioning of the flare tip system.
To be able to perform this scope, we relied on subcontracting a local helicopter company for the work. Very early in the process, contact was established with Southern Service Flight Company (SSFC). We entered into a contract agreement with SSFC where they were to provide helicopter and crew for the operation, while Vertech Offshore should provide a specialist long line pilot for the work.
The offshore operation was planned to take place on 16th April 2010. Vertech crew going offshore on the 15th, did all necessary preparations on the 15th, like rigging of the new flare tip. Our electricians were also allowed to enter the flare boom to inspect the site and to prepare for the work.
On the 16th, helicopter arrived on the platform 06:40 in the morning, according to schedule. After a short briefing with the crew, helicopter lifting operation started at 08:30. The total operation very much proceeded as planned. Flare tips were replaced 11:00 hours and 12:00 hours and the total operation was completed within 16:00 hours. This also included the electrical scope.
After a short debriefing at the platform, Vertech crew and lifting helicopter were demobilised from platform around 17:00 hours. So far, everything had been going according to schedule. The plan was then that Vertech crew should leave Vietnam on the 17th and be back in Norway the day after. However, because of a volcano ash from Iceland and big problems with the flight traffic in Europe, it took 5 days and a lot of trouble to get the crew home.
The subcontracting of the helicopter, planning and working together with SSFC was altogether a very pleasant experience. SSFC is a very professional helicopter company with a very competent staff. The cooperation with this company, from contract negotiations to completion of the operation, went perfect. After doing this operation we have only very good experiences with SSFC.
All in all this was a very successful operation. The scope of work was performed according to schedule and most important, there were no incidents. Also important for the success of the work, was the very good cooperation with both the client and also with SSFC. We worked with very professional parties that responded very well to all our requests during the work.
